The problem with spam has been an ongoing one for us for quite some time. Yes they are all bots, which makes it very difficult for us as humans to keep up with. The version of vBulletin that is used to host the Protocel Forum is very old and out of date. There is no technical support for it, which basically means we have to do whatever we can ourselves (as non-technical people) to try and keep it up and running as best we can, with as many functions as possible for our users.

Unfortunately over the past couple of months the spam has gotten completely out of control, as I am sure you have all noticed. As of today, January 22, 2010 we have now turned of nearly every available function on the forum to stop the spam. We have hesitated to do this, as we know this will now limit the communication you genuine users will have between each other, and many have found that helpful in the past, to speak to others in similar situations.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused, it has not been an easy problem for us to deal with on this side of things.

If after today you are experiencing any further issues with spam please let the administrators know, and we will try to sort it out. Also please go ahead and delete all spam messages out of your inboxes/private messages, there is no need to keep them.
